Perhaps this bug is almost unheard of in our area. I posted about finding and killing one in my bedroom. Its name belies a dangerous transmitter of a deadly disease known as Chagas(sha-gus). If it has bitten someone who has the disease it can transmit it to its next host.
The main reason I posted the message was not that I may have been bitten by one but the fact that this mostly tropical bug(Mexico and South America) is now in Okla.
One source says approx 50,000 people die from this disease(Chagas) per year. And I have just read that it is well known in Arizona.
Did our unusually warm weather(Global Warming?) bring this bug along with fire ants, killer bees, and God only knows what other pests to our area?
I hope I killed the only one in the state but thats not very realistic to believe.
The bug resembles a large brown stink bug(same 'family') except the one I killed was almost black with purple markings along the edges of its back.
Even tho there is a burn ban I burned the one I killed in the kitchen sink. I sort of wish I had preserved it in a bottle of rubbing alchohol. But I read by then you can get the disease by touching the bug offal unknowingly and rubbing your eyes or mouth.
