Hurry up, I've only got a minute If that was rude of me, I'm just trying to fit in. Americans are ruder than we were 20 or 30 years ago, according to a new poll. Ninety percent believe parents are to blame. It didn't use to be that way. I remember once when I was 6, waiting for what seemed a lifetime for some hot chocolate at the old Patio Restaurant. Finally, when the waitress came, she brought everybody's hot chocolate but mine. As she walked away, I said "Hurry up". My parents about came unhinged. Thanks for that, Mom and Dad -- I've never forgotten it. But a lot of parents aren't getting it done today. Be honest -- aren't you surprised when you see a youngster holding the door for an adult? Wouldn't you be shocked to see a young person give up their seat for an older person? There was a time when it was expected. I don't know about you, but I've reminded other kids, not just mine, to mind their manners. Thirty- eight percent of us do that. We adults are ruder too, victims of the fast pace. I know if I have to wait more than a couple of minutes at a fast food restaurant, I start getting a little edgy. We're ruder on the roadways, too. Cell phones? Speak quietly, or take it somewhere else, please. i'm about to get rude, so I'd better stop -- my apologies.
